This is more of an ending that is turning into a surprise beginning. I had a 12yr friendship end recently in an odd dramatic way, we spoke or communicated daily. Instead of feeling a loss I feel as if more space has opened up in my little world. Not sure if there’s a correlation but I’ve been adding lots of color to my normally neutral home.

I hated speaking in front of class (to the point of almost throwing up) & then in college, an invisable switch flipped and I did it all the time (classes, forums, I was secretary of student council!) I went on to fundraising and even lobbying Congress!!

Write about a beginning that surprised you.

My friends encouraged me to enter one of my photos in a show. I didn’t want to but finally relented. I did it as a lark.

I was accepted and have been entering shows where I have sold some of my work and even have been awarded prizes and awards.

I’m still surprised! And I am still very much an amateur!

That is incredible! And good for your friends for encouraging you. We so need the people in our worlds that help us expand our expectations and step out where we might not do so alone. I’m so glad you’re here.

Yes! And that’s why you are here for us!

Who could have guessed that 2 years after messaging Lionheart on ICQ, that we would marry and soon be celebrating 26 years together? Especially after both of us declaring, repeatedly, that we would never remarry?

I was always very creative, but at a very low point in my life, I decided I wanted to learn how to use alcohol inks. From the very first moment I found such joy creating art with these vibrant inks, that what started as an effort to improve my well being, developed into a passion! Although initially the fact that the ink seemed to have a mind of its own, caused some stress for me as a bit of a perfectionist, I did eventually share my art with family and friends, albeit with some trepidation.

Well done for sharing your art! I really relate to that. Watercolor can have a mind of its own! The colors help ground and guide me, especially when I’m in the middle of a hard season.

One day I transferred a photo to fabric and started embroidering on it. And this work grew and grew with embroidered phantasy things and with copied real things. The work is called 'Amsterdam is changing' and it started a new way of looking at my work.

That sounds utterly amazing. I love it when you try something and suddenly you find a new dimension of your practice!
