I collaborated with an artist, Liz, while writing my first novel, The Girl from the Hermitage. The main character in the book is an artist and Liz read through the manuscript several times, advising how to make the character more authentic. Sadly, she passed away shortly after publication. Whenever a reader comments on the vivid the painting scenes or asks if I'm an artist, I fondly remember Liz. The very first time we met to discuss the manuscript she said "I love any form of collaboration." She brought enthusiasm and knowledge to the book. Writing is such a solitary task. Suddenly, I felt less so.
Collaboration can be like popcorn. An idea emerges, pops up, which sparks another idea to enhance or maybe show a different direction. And before you know it, the pot is overflowing!
I can’t think of something specific right now, but I know in different areas of my life where planning was involved, it was great having people to bounce around with to bring an idea into fruition.
I’m certainly finding that I’m flowing more with what makes me happy while having creative time. Also that it hasn’t got to be perfect. The showing up each day is great for me as I’m hopeless at continuity or so I thought🤣 reaching day 9 is amazing for me and I’m proud of myself. 🥰
Thankyou for sharing. 💛 I think collaboration is the way to go...before you are made and after or always. There's much learning, discovering, rediscovering🤭 healing, constructive criticism or not. You're stepping into another world, co-creating something, a small way of saying yes to big growth. I've always grown with collabs. Storytelling, writing, community-work.
I am member of a group of 4 women, fabric artists. And every 6-8 weeks we show our work and talk about it for a day. Very inspirational!
