Dear Me. A Letter to Myself & All My Creative Friends
On Writing the Words You Most Need to Hear
Language is power. It has the power to shape us and make us and also break us. Some of the most consequential words are the ones we learn to speak to ourselves. The words we internalize that become the repeating records in our heads.
Exactly a year ago today I wrote a letter. This post is completely unplanned. I just happened to open to this letter in my journal today as I’m planning for the 2nd half of the 2023. A year to the day. And it is more relevant than ever.
Whenever I am about to start a new season or a big project or just have something meaningful happen, I often write a letter to myself filled with the words I most need to hear.
In case you might need to tuck some of them away as well, I’ve written them for you too. Here they are:
10 July, 2022
“You know that thing that makes your heart come alive? That breathes hope deep down and makes you feel like you have wings? The spark that ignites light to burn brave and beautiful in the darkness and sets your soul on fire?
THAT is where you are meant to build. THIS is the daring path you are meant to embrace. The ART of the MATTER. Pigment and page meets WILD WONDER. Beauty etched in landscapes of pain forged in fire. You CAN BEGIN again.
Wide awake to wonder and legend and story. To the stories that shape us and the metaphors that make us. The images that call forth the depths in our soul we didn’t know were there.
The moments nebulas contract and universes are born. Moments that hold the brightness and gravity to change everything.
It’s not about all the things you can do, but the things that pull you back to center time and time again.
Permission granted to imagine and pursue a path that brings back the parts of yourself you didn’t know were lost.
Build there. Explore there. THIS is the ART of the MATTER, to make living itself your grandest, highest, most wonderfilled work of heart.”
