Love Looks Like Something | WonderHelps
How we can become a community of helpers. Introducing our first community service project. Help serve 50,000 meals.
Friends reading this in your inbox or on the app, it would mean the world if you’d take a moment to tap the 🤍 emoji and/or share this post to help it get seen by more people. I have a dream of growing this space into the kindest corner on the internet, something that supports your creativity, connection, and courage even more in the days we are in. I can only do what I do because of you, and I am so grateful you are here.

I have always believed integrity demands that I use any platform I have for good beyond myself.
Never has this been more true than right now.
What I’m about to share is about loving & serving our neighbors who are struggling.
And yes, ultimately love is political because it compels us to speak truth to power.
But today, I’m talking about the kind of love that shows up with skin on for neighbors. The kind of compassion that acts.
When you are hungry, love looks like food to eat. That simple.
I’m the proud daughter of 2 career civil servants. Both my parents worked in Navy civil service their entire careers. My Dad also served in the Navy for 20 years. Government shutdowns were scary things. When they loomed, tensions were high until they passed.
You may or may not be aware that US food assistance benefits called SNAP are being suspended for at least the month of November, November 1.
That means 20+ million working-class homes in the USA that depend on SNAP to feed their children are losing those resources over the holidays.
Have you ever looked into the eyes of a mama who can’t feed her babies? I have. Almost daily in Sudan. I held their babies, who were starving.
I have felt the edges of that desperation myself when we had 100 children and 30 staff to feed in dire circumstances, where there was literally no food to buy because of political instability, border closures, & crop failures.
I’ve also seen the power of love in action. How small actions multiply to change whole communities.
When we cultivate creativity (like we do here), it actually strengthens the mirror neurons in our brains that help make us more compassionate. The Wonder Habit isn’t just about making art.
It’s about forging the kind of creativity that leads us into compassion that acts & empowers us to become the helpers our communities need.
Welcome to our first community #WonderHelps service project.
There is absolutely NO pressure to participate. Just an offer if you are able and so inclined.
I’ve also structured this to be a great deal for y’all, because I know things are tight. They are here too. I want this to be a win for everyone. And I am for sure not going to invite you to do something I’m not carrying the load on.
Here are the details.
Feeding America is an organization that stocks local food pantries/banks across the USA. Which are being stretched to the breaking point in many places, and it is about to get much worse.
As a 20-year veteran in the non-profit space, I am PICKY about where my support goes. P-I-C-K-Y. They have a stellar track record of integrity.
With Feeding America, just $1 is stretched into 10 meals.
Imagine if 500 of us gave $10. That is 50,000 meals.
If you donate a one-time gift of $10, I’m offering 3 months of free access to the paid part of this Substack, Prompt & Ponder.
If you’d like to jump in on this, it is as easy as 1-2-3.
Give one $10 gift to Feeding America between now and the end of November 2025. I’ll send you the code that will give you 3 months of free access to the archive of all our prompts and content here on The Wonder Habit. Plus our weekly paid Prompt & Ponder email.
The whole shebang. Just tell me you did it. I trust you.
Click the link button. Enter your name and email. I’ll send you the link to give at our group fundraiser page and the code to get your 3-month free trial of our paid tier.
I can only offer this once per person because this is still how I keep food on my table. Thank you for that!
So. Are you in? Let’s serve 50,000 meals together.
PS. If $10 is too much for you to give, I totally get it. It is a huge help to like and share this post to help more people see it. I’m so grateful for you being here.

Done! And I’ll share this as well.
Thank you for doing this. I'll spread the word.
