What if a Year Could Change Everything? Welcome to My Year of Less.
Here's to Gentle Beginnings, Simple Joys, and Everyday Wonder.
Imagine with me friends. Really. What if a year could could change everything?
Would you go all in to see it happen? What if you bet on yourself and decide to work as hard for your own dream as you would for someone else’s?
What if you cleared out the things you don’t need, or even like, that are taking space away from the things you want more of?
And what if choosing less makes way for more?
Questions like these have led me to make 2024 a personal “No Buy Year.”
(That name doesn’t mean I don’t buy anything. It just means I have drilled down on my boundaries in order to invest in my dreams. I’ll share more of the practicalities in upcoming posts in case you want to try it out at your own pace.)
The thing I didn’t expect 4 days in is how much space this decision has already made for greater clarity and creativity.
You might have heard of or read the book The Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes.
Well, I’m dubbing this My Year of Less.
Because this is about so much more than physical clutter or bank balances.
Since the new year, I’ve been waking up early to make a steaming cup of coffee and pour words into my moleskine. Those pages are sacred.
I write and paint and create to understand myself long before I create anything I share.
As I’ve been writing, 21 themes that have everything to do with creativity, wonder, and creative practice have popped up in the pages.
So I thought we’d have a fun little series on them here. In no particular order:
Less consumption. More creation.
Less rush. More hush.
Less distraction. More delight.
Less spending. More simplified.
Less busy. More bored.
Less stuff. More space.
Less social media. More shared coffee dates.
Less vicarious. More vital.
Less scroll. More soul.
Less wired. More wonder.
Less frantic. More flow state.
Less aspirational. More authentic.
Less rust. More trust.
Less impulse. More intention.
Less noise. More nurture.
Less stagnant. More spontaneous.
Less information. More introspection.
Less polish. More play.
Less expert. More explorer.
Less productivity. More presence.
Less confusion. More connection.
Coming to your inbox in the coming day and weeks here. Maybe you’ll even want to join me and try your own year of less!
