You Are an Artist. Even if You Don't Feel Like One.
Because There Are SO Many Ways to Create Courageously
Dear Creatives,
You, my friend, are an artist. Even if you don’t know it yet. Even if you have never picked up a paintbrush or doodled in the corner of your class notes.
Gosh, these last few days have been gloriously wild. So many new friends.
As we are gearing up for our community 100-Day Project, the 100 Days of Wonder 2024, I’ve had many conversations asking if you have to be an artist to join.
And I’ve been saying, no of course not. My slightly buzzy, sleep-deprived, very-happy-we-went-viral brain fell right into the narrow definition of the word artist I actually want to blast holes in.
So not to contradict myself but to contradict myself. I’m calling a — Plot twist!
You don’t have to be an artist, because you already ARE an artist.
This journey we are soon embarking on with the #100DaysofWonder 2024 at it’s deepest level isn’t about one way of creating. It’s about forging a space where your soul can breathe and building a creative practice that can carry you.
(I know that is very vague. More details are coming this week on some practical ways we will be doing all that.)
Creativity is not a you have it or you don’t sitch. Creativity is a skill, a muscle, a way of being we can practice and grow stronger in.
I believe there is an art spark that lives in every single one of us. A hope that wants the world around us to be better and brighter. A dream of what could be. A seed of creativity longing to grow and offer beauty in places of loss and loneliness.
And I believe that with every fiber of my being, right down to my mitochondria.
Maybe you grow things or you record memories on envelope backs.
Maybe you paint, or sketch, or collage, or journal. Or borrow your kids crayons after they are sleeping.
Maybe you stop and take in the sunset while the world rushes by around you.
Maybe you check in on friends and make sure they are supported.
Maybe life is overwhelming right now and it is all you can do to find your footing moment by moment.
I believe the most incredible creative work we do is most often painted on our hearts and shared through our living.
SO, my friend. YOU are an artist, full of wonder.
And you can’t convince me otherwise. I believe in you.
The world needs what you bring to it. The world needs your art. The world needs you.
Creativity is a practice.
Inspiration is a practice.
Beauty is a practice.
Courage is a practice.
Wonder is a practice.
And I am so happy you are here, part of our growing community of courage at The Wonder Habit™.
P.S. If this landed in your email, you are already all signed up. But in case you haven’t seen all the details on the 100 Days of Wonder here’s a link to read more about it. We start February 18 as a community 100 Day Project!
